Phases of Revival

End Times

In the early 1980's a prophecy was given to Mike Bickle that revival would break out in America ten years later. It would come as a movement that restored the manifestations of Acts 2 to the Church, where the Holy Spirit came as a mighty rushing wind, flames that sat on men's heads, and then the appearance of drunkenness in those who spoke with tongues. This time the Lord was to come first in the form of “drunkenness” - or wine, then as a fire, and then as wind. It would be a progressive restoration.

In 1993 revival finally fell where Rodney Howard-Browne's was in Lakeland, Florida, and in 1994 it hit Toronto, Canada. This was a wild revival characterized primarily by people laughing and behaving as though they were intoxicated. It seemed as though the wine was being poured out.

In 1995 another historic outbreak took place in Brownsville, Florida, where millions of sinners were drawn to repentance under the conviction of the Lord. People ran to the alters there to get saved, and often cried or shook for long periods of time as God cleaned their hearts. It was as though a fire had come to burn away all the filth in their lives.

For years Mike Bickle told others that these two revivals were the fulfillment of the prophecy he had received, and he explained that the next “wave” was to be one of angelic activity interrupting meetings. This is what he said the “wind” signified.

At last in 2008 a young man named Todd Bentley said an angel named “The Winds of Change” came to him in Lakeland, Florida, and told him that God was going to move there again. Soon thousands of worshippers were gathering into Todd's meetings, many receiving healings which Todd claimed angels were directing him to call out. This was a highly controversial revival, which ended in less than one year. Nevertheless, after God TV decided to start airing it on their channel it spread faster than any of the previous outpourings.

During the 1990s, Mike heard another prophecy which declared that the “wine, fire, and wind” were only the appetizers which would arrive before a full-course meal. The word warned that men must not become satisfied by their experiences in these revivals, but should hunger for a deeper encounter with God. Another phase of blessings was to come which would completely overshadow the rest. I believe this is an extremely important message for the entire Body of Christ to receive.

Rodney Howard-Browne has been predicting since about 2006 that a great awakening is coming to this continent, which will shake the land to its core. Jesus is going to keep touching certain regions of North America, blessing them with unusual joy, sanctification, and miraculous health. Yet the Father has something much more intense prepared for us which will have a deeper effect on our entire society. This has to kept in focus.

Just as surely as He kept His word to bless the Church, Christ will use His Church to bless the world. We cannot be distracted when renewal comes to us, but must continue to seek God for the greater change. Then, like Peter in Acts, we will reach out to our cities and be able able to testify, “Those who accepted our message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to our number that day,” (Acts 2:41). It will be glorious!
