Matt Sorger, a prophetic revivalist
who has a program on God TV, has been prophesying for some time that a “clear water revival” is coming to the
Church. This movement, which Matt believes will come in 2009, will be one “not tainted by human flesh...God will remove
all areas of compromise and raise up a new breed of pure-hearted believers.” It is an outpouring which will be marked
by a spirit of conviction, in which the fear of the Lord touches many hearts.
A host of
prophetic voices have been confirming this word. Patricia King called this coming movement a “righteousness revival.”
Her close friend Stacey Campbell recently released an extensive word about a coming “baptism of fire.” Several
others have used the same phrase to describe what they see ahead, including Rick Joyner and Bill Hamon. Joyner went so far
as to announce, “There is a new Pentecost coming, again! This really is not new, but the recovery of some aspects of
the baptism that are yet to be fully recovered by the modern Pentecostal and Charismatic Movements.”
Some may
say, “But the baptism of fire God's word speaks of is to come and consume the wicked! This is not something the Church
should seek as a blessing!” The Bible clearly says though that this experience is something for God's people. Malachi 3:1-3, “'Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will
come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,' says the LORD Almighty. 'But who can endure
the day of his coming? Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner's fire or a launderer's soap. He will
sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and silver. Then the LORD will
have men who will bring offerings in righteousness...'” In other words, our Father is going to deal with his own house
before He deals with the world. We must be clean before we can be used in a greater way to see society cleansed.
John the
baptist stated that Jesus “will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire,” (Luke 3:17). Fire does not have to
be a judgement if we are willing to receive it. Judgement will only consume those living in rebellion, unwilling to submit
to Christ's lordship. This is why Jesus said, “I came to send a fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled!”
He might not be excited about judging His creation, but He is excited about baptizing us with His fire!
Jesus continued,
“I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how distressed I am until it is accomplished!” Christ had to undergo
a baptism of fire by surrendering His will to the Father's, and we will have to do the same thing. According to the messages
being shared, God is going to give us an increase of grace and revelation to undergo this baptism. A spiritual experience
we have only tasted of will soon become a widespread phenomenon.
God wants
to take the Body of Christ to a whole new level of holiness. This is going to take a intense increase in power released from
the Throne Room of Heaven. It will not be something completely unprecedented, and we will no doubt need to go through it multiple
times (just as we are frequently baptized in the Spirit). However, we must prepare our hearts to be stretched and accept this
gift that we are not completely familiar with. Otherwise, we may indeed end up being those in need of God's wrath upon us.
